Last weekend, I finally made it out to Ganjuran, a church to the south of Jogja that I’ve been meaning to visit. This church is unique because it was built with heavy Javanese influences. The stations of the cross are all carved out in the style of the reliefs at Borobudur or Prambanan and the grounds feature a temple-like structure housing a statue of Jesus. It was fascinating to see the interweaving of Catholic and Javanese iconography.
Happy Lent, everyone!
